Adele Lebow, who spent more than four decades working on behalf of women’s and junior golf, died on Sept. 19 in Collegeville, Pa. She was 95. Lebow, a Royersford, Pa., native, was the first female recipient of the USGA’s Joe Dey Award, winning it in 2004.

The Joe Dey Award annually recognizes an individual’s meritorious service to the game of golf as a volunteer, and Lebow’s longtime advocacy for the game certainly fit that description.

Lebow served as president of both the Pennsylvania State Women’s Golf Association (1990-1991) and the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia (1976-1977). She was passionate about girls’ junior golf. In 2006, Lebow and two others established Girls Golf of Valley Forge in the Philadelphia area. She served as site director of Girls Golf of Valley Forge until 2015, when she passed on duties to her daughter-in-law, Patty.

In 2014, Lebow also earned the USGA’s Ike Grainger Award, which recognizes someone who has served the Association as a volunteer for 25 years. She served on the USGA Regional Affairs Committee.

With late husband Charles, the Lebows opened Lebow Furniture Co., in 1949. She is survived by sons Jack and Rodger; grandchildren Michael and Susan and great-granddaughter Molly.
